## Verification process

1. Confirm the domain resolves to the intended hosting service.
2. Open `https://DOMAIN` in a clean browser session.
3. Inspect the certificate subject and alternative names.
4. Confirm the certificate is currently valid.
5. Test both apex and `www` hostnames when both are used.
6. Verify automatic renewal through the hosting environment.

## Common causes of failure

* DNS points to the wrong server.
* The domain is not attached to the hosting account.
* Port 80 or 443 is blocked.
* A proxy serves a different certificate.
* The certificate does not include every requested hostname.
* Renewal validation cannot reach the server.
